Candidate statement
I am an Obstetrician-gynecologist who specializes in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. I am a passionate advocate for physicians' rights and representation. With my strong varied clinical background, passion for medical education and extensive leadership experience in healthcare governance, I appreciate the academic, hospital, and community-based physician issues.
My commitment to patient safety, professional advocacy, and evidence-based medicine aligns with the CMPA's mission of protecting and supporting physicians while advancing safe medical care in Canada.
The CMPA is vital in providing physicians with medico-legal protection, risk management resources, and advocacy. Ontario Medical Association (OMA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) boards have deepened my understanding of medical liability issues, governance structures, and physicians' evolving challenges. I have actively contributed to policy discussions surrounding physician wellness, patient safety, and healthcare system sustainability, which intersect with CMPA's strategic objectives.
If elected to the CMPA Council, I will focus on enhancing risk management and education, supporting physician well-being, and strengthening governance and member engagement.
My clinical pharmacology background and undergraduate medical education have shaped my understanding of medical students' and residents' challenges and struggles.
Through my leadership at the OMA, I have been a strong advocate for physician wellness, gender equity, and work-life balance. The CMPA must continue to evolve its support systems to address the mental health and burnout challenges faced by physicians involved in legal disputes.
Having completed the ICD course and served as a board director, I possess experience in governance best practices. I will bring this expertise to the CMPA and ensure our voices are heard when shaping policies and services.
As a reproductive medicine specialist, physician-educator, and governance leader, my work supporting women physicians and advocating for inclusivity in governance underscores my commitment to representation. My experiences in clinical medicine, medical education, and healthcare governance equip me to contribute meaningfully to the CMPA Council.
